Fit Guide

There are four things you need to consider when buying boots:
                                    Instep, Toe, Ball and Heel.

INSTEP: Unlike shoes with laces, a boot has only the instep to hold it securely to the
foot. Hence, proper fit in the instep is of utmost importance. The fit should be snug, not
tight or loose. The snugness is governed by the instep fit and the width of the throat. If
the instep is too loose, the boot will slip excessively in the heel. To remedy this, you may
need a more narrow width to shorten the circumference of the throat. This will reduce
slippage without cutting down on the length of the boot. Slight slippage is necessary to
obtain a proper fit.

Toes: Run your finger over the smaller toes' area to see if the toes touch softly against
the leather. Make sure to be standing.  If the smaller toes extend beyond the stitching
line of the welt, or if the toes cause a bump, the boots are too short. Try a larger size.

BALL: When you walk or run, you bend your foot at its widest part. This is called the
ball. Same with boots. The ball of the foot should rest on the ball of the boot. If the boot
is too short, the ball of the foot will sit too far forward and force the toes into the toe
box.

HEEL: A new pair of boots will slip slightly in the heel because there is nothing to
prevent the heel of the foot from riding up. When the boot is new, the sole is stiff.  As
you wear the boot the sole is “flexed”.  With time, most of the slippage will disappear.
                                             Shoe Care

Properly Maintain and Extend the Life of your Boots

1. CLEAN
Do not let dirt and dust accumulate on leather products. After each wearing, boots
should be wiped down with a damp, not wet, cloth. Dust and dirt can break down the
leather and shorten the life of your boots. Allow your boots to dry out thoroughly
between wearings. This prevents the onset of bacteria from forming in the leather.
Allow your boots to air dry; do not set them near a heat source.

2. CONDITION
Conditioning leather is important because conditioner helps to maintain the original look
and feel of the leather. Conditioning keeps the boots from drying out. Use a conditioner
specially formulated for boots. Lanolin based products work best.

3. POLISH
To keep boots looking their best, you should periodically apply a matching boot cream
polish. The polish will help to cover any scuffs and can be brought to a bright luster.

4. PROTECT
Protect your boots even more with water repellant, use boot trees to help maintain your
boots shape and form and use edge dressing on the outside edge to maintain welt color.
